Matthew was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota. It was cold as heck so he decided to pack up his family and move when he was 2 weeks old. Unfortunately, he didn't get far and ended up just moving up and down the middle states. He never moved to Texas or North Dakota but spent every summer in his family's town of Scott City, Kansas. At some point, insanity struck, and by the time he reached the 7th grade he was moving back to South Dakota with his mother. This time to the state capital of Pierre.
The Pierre stent didn't last long and after several moves, he wound up in Brookings, South Dakota. While suggestions of yet another move swirled around the thoughts at his house, he had to put his foot down. He fumed "No more moving, you can head if you want to, but I am going to graduate in this town with my friends." Thankfully his mother relented. They stayed in Brookings until Matt graduated in 2000.
Matthew met his wife Heidi while working as the Assistant Manager in the Kitchen at Perkins Family Restaurant. She was an Assistant Manager in the front of the store. Once Matt graduated high school, he basically moved in with her. He attempted to rent an apartment with a roommate but only stayed several nights in the three months he was on the lease.
On October 16th, 2001, one short month after the towers fell, Matthew's world changed forever when he became a father. Elijah Francis Berry was born. He had a son! Shortly after the birth of Elijah, the family moved to Yankton, South Dakota where Heidi's family was from. Matthew got a job at Wilson's Trailor and ended up being a welder. He quickly grew tired of the older guys complaining about how they worked there their whole lives. So, he decided to go back to school. He knew he wanted to do something to help others, and then he found radiology. While going to college full time, he worked three part-time jobs. One at a local steakhouse, another as an x-ray/lab tech, and a third as Jail Officer for the Yankton Police Department. He quit the steakhouse and jailer position shortly after Yankton County took over running the jail and another radiology position opened up.
Radiology became Matthew's passion and his work in this field still remains today. In 2007, Matthew graduated from Mt. Marty College and Avera's Sacred Heart Hospital School of Radiology with his Bachelor of Science Degree in Radiology. As exciting as that was, his biggest celebration of 2007 came on April 21st. It was following a long work week when his wife called while he was taking call out of town. He could hear the smile in her voice when she casually asked, "So, wanna have a baby this weekend"? Apparently, their baby was ready to come out per the doctors' orders. Well of course Matthew wanted to have a baby that weekend. His daughter, Alivia Rose Berry, was born and the family couldn't have been happier.
Since then Matthew has been very active in his career field but something was nagging at him. His urging to be involved with the written word. The medical journals he wrote did not fill the desire for the kind of words he wanted to be a part of. He had always considered himself a writer. But one that often had difficulties completing the story. So, how else could he be involved? Matthew began listening to audiobooks and decided in 2017 that he was going to give it a try. Since then, there has been much improvement in his style and he keeps getting better and better.
He now has 17 audiobook projects on sale at Amazon, Audible, and iTunes with several other projects in the works.
